Back to School Clothes Shopping
September 6, 2008

Remember when you were a kid, what it was like getting ready for that first day school?  Going shopping for a lunch box (okay, I've just dated myself).  We all loved going shopping for the new school outfits so we would look our best on the first day.  Well not everyone in Brea is that lucky.  Many of our kids go to school with whatever their older siblings out grew.  Many of these kids have never even had a pair of new shoes.

Well, that changed for some lucky kids on Saturday, September 6.  Grants from La Floresta , donations from Wal-Mart, and funds from Brea Kiwanis have made it possible to host almost  thirty kids at the annual Back To School Shopping project.  Wal-Mart Brea opened its doors for us at 7:00 am.

This really was an all-hands-evolution with many Kiwanians, Key Clubbers, Boy Scouts, family and friends showing up.  The morning started at an early 7:00 am as Beach Master Annetta Scott got things organized.  After finding out who were from where, Annetta started assigning kids to volunteers and they went off shopping.

After they checked out, Wal-Mart handed each child a goody bag of back-to-school supplies and as many report folders as they could carry.
